More than ever, Don Bosco needed to comeback and beat its rival Bergen Catholic in the fourth quarter of the most anticipated match up in NJ. The home team used all the weapons they could to come from behind in front of a crowd of over 8,000 at Granatell Stadium in Ramsey, New Jersey. Safety/Running Back Elijah Shumate scored three touchdowns for the Ironmen on the ground. Bergen Catholic was lead by junior quarterback Jonathan Germano (20-36 for 253 yards, 3 touchdowns, and two intceptions) who tore apart the Don Bosco defense for the first three quarters. However, it was the fourth quarter when Germano threw his two interceptions that both ended up in the hands of Kyle Sakowski and that sealed the game for Don Bosco.
This article shows the high school football fans in the tri-state area that Don Bosco maintained their 39 game winning streak after being down at half time vs rival Bergen Catholic. Bergen put Bosco on kept Don Bosco on their toes by scoring touchdown after touchdown and every single person in attendence was absolutely shocked. No one thought Bergen had a chance at even coming close to the #1 ranked team in the nation. My alternate headline for this article is Bosco Maintains Number One Spot, Bergen Falls Short. Unfortunately, I have no question regarding this topic at the moment because I know almost everything about north jersey high-school football.
