Lately, tourists have been flocking lately to the newest attraction at the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  Mount Nyamulagria is an active volcano and has been the subject of tourism in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Tourists take hikes overnight to visit the volcano which has been flowing for nearly a month. Statistics show that with the amount of tourists increasing, the park is expected to raise over $1 million in revenue for the first time in history. This story is important because it reflects on the positive side of congo (its beautiful volcano that attracts tourists), instead of the negative side (the rebel activity within the impoverished country). I chose “Tourism in Congo erupts from volcano” because tourism is certainly on the rise since the eruption of the volcano on Mount Nyamulagria.
