State Championship Game Previews

Its hard to believe that the 2011 high-school football season is nearly over. It seems like the season started last week. This weekends state championship games feature controversy, all-americans, and everything else imaginible. Enjoy the previews!

Pompton Lakes vs Glen Rock– Pompton Lakes is on a roll and it doesn’t look like anyone is going to stop them. Glen Rock was able to edge out Butler two weeks ago on a last second field goal. Pompton’s secondary has been very consistent this year vs teams that pass and it doesn’t look like Glen Rock is going to do much damage in the passing game. Pompton has rolled over almost every team they faced this season and I think they will be able to cap off the perfect season on Friday in Metlife Stadium. Pompton wins 34-13.

Don Bosco vs Bergen Catholic– Don Bosco has the chance to extend their 46 game winning streak and most of all, win another national title with a win over Bergen Catholic. We have all anticipated this game from the start of the year and I think it will be a good test for Bosco. On the other side, Bergen will look to suceed in the passing game led by Jon Germano. Earlier this year, Bosco beat Bergen 33-22 and Bergen was in it right until the end. I think it will be another close match up but Bosco has the edge and they will win their 6th State Championship in a row. 38-32 Don Bosco.

North Bergen vs Montclair– After losing last year in the finals to Randolph, Montclair is back. The Mounties are loaded with talent led by quarterback Khalif Herbin. North Bergen has won two close games in the playoffs over Passaic Tech and Union City.  Coach Vincent Ascolese for North Bergen will coach his last game to cap off a 50 year coaching career. Montclair definitely has the edge in this one with their speed, size, and strength but I wouldn’t be surprised if North Bergen kept it close for a little bit in the first half. Montclair wins it 42-21.

Old Tappan vs Wayne Hills- This is the match-up we have all been waiting for. Wayne Hills has 9 players suspended in a re-match of last years North 1, Group 3 championship. Old Tappan has won 5 straight games and it doesn’t look like anyone is going to stop them. At this point, the Wayne Hills players have to be motivated knowing that they will play without some of their best players. I think that Old Tappan has the edge because they have the momentum. Old Tappan 42-26.
