Pompton Runs all over Glen Rock on route to Group 1 title

EAST RUTHERFORD-

The Pompton Lakes Cardinal’s plan was to run the ball all over Glen Rock. As it turns out, it was almost all they ended up doing on Friday at Metlife Stadium.
The Pompton Lakes offense controlled the tempo the whole game and pounded the ball all over Glen Rock. Senior running back Nieko Torres rushed for 195 yards on 35 carries. Torres also had two touchdowns on carries of 13 and 23 yards.
When the running game was slow, Pompton went to the air. Junior quarterback Robbie Myers hit Larry Gelok on a 29 yard pass midway through the second quarter. Myers made throws from all around the field as the Glen Rock secondary struggled with their coverage.
“It was always a dream for me” said offensive tackle Andrew Grosser regarding playing at Metlife Stadium. The Pompton offensive line had success no matter if they ran or threw the ball.
Glen Rock was shut down offensively throughout the game. Glen Rock wasn’t able to get anything going offensively. They struggled in the passing game and didn’t have success on the ground either.
This was Pompton Lake’s first state title in 6 years.
