Positives and Negatives from Hurricane Sandy

This week has made NJ a total mess. No school, no power for most, and the state playoffs have been pushed back 1 week. Football state championships will now be held December 7th and 8th.

I can’t imagine a single playoff team that isn’t banged up I some way at this point. Wayne Hills will get Kevin Olsen back 1 week sooner and other teams will be healthier by the start of the playoffs; which will begin on November 16th and 17th. As far as I know, every football game in New Jersey has been postponed until next week. Bergen is playing out of state, so that doesn’t count. St. Peters Prep had to cancel their game vs Dover (Delaware) this weekend and is looking for an opponent to play on either November 9th or 10th. The main difference between this year and past years is that football teams will play the semi-finals and finals after Thanksgiving. If the hurricane did not postpone this weeks matchups, there would be only one week of playoffs (state championship week) remaining after Thanksgiving.

Just as I said before many teams are yet to practice. It is definitely going to take a few days for players to get back into the swing of things considering that there have not been any practices.

Another thing that crosses my mind when I think about the football season being postponed one week is that it will cut into wrestling and basketball season. This means that any football players who wrestle or play basketball will miss more than 1 week if they are competing in the semifinal round.
