Friday night lights in Ramsey

This weekends state championship matchups are set. Teams from all around New Jersey will compete for a state title. But before I get to this weekend, I want to back track a litte.. The result of this weekends Non Public Group 4 Bosco vs. Bergen marked the first time the Ironmen would not play in the state championship game since 2001. Bergen was able to execute their game plan by running the with 4 backs. The typical spread offense look was not in affect the first half for a single play. Instead, the crusaders ran the triple option and double option with quarterback Jon Germano under center. I had Germano with 16 rushes for 83 yards in the first half. Germano also accounted for all 4 of Bergen’s 28 points. (2 passing and 2 rushing). The Bosco offense never really got going and they weren’t able to consistently run the ball with Hanks. I think Nunzio definitely out coached Toal and that helped contribute to Bergen’s victory. Friday night was the first time Bergen had beat Bosco since 2004. Bosco definitely deserves credit for keeping the win streak vs their rival alive for 8 years.
