St. Joseph wins Non-Public Group 3 for second year in a row

St Joseph scored 37 unanswered points and held Delbarton to no points in the second half to win their 16th state championship.

HOW THE GAME WAS WON: The Green Knights got off to an awful start. They fumbled on each of their first 3 possessions and punted on the 4th. Joe’s finally got on the board when Sherman Alston scored on a 2 yard TD run with 1:54 in the half. On Joe’s second offensive play of the second half, Spencer Aukamp connected with Ricky Jeune for an 88 yard touchdown pass to give then Green Knight’s a 16-9 lead. Joe’s never looked back.

TURNING POINT: Spender Aukamp ran for a 9 yard touchdown that gave Joe’s a 23-9 lea with :27 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. From that point on, the Green Knight’s had all the momentum.

PLAYER(S) OF THE GAME:
-St. Joseph receiver Ricky Jeune caught 4 passes for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns.
-The Green Knights defense did not give up any points in the second half. They also sacked Delbarton quarterback Michael Bicknese 4 times for 36 yards.
