Signing Day

You thought that high school football ended in December when state champions were crowned and the all league/state/county teams were announced right? Not so fast. High school football is a year round sport that includes offseason workouts, recruiting, scheduling, and the games themselves. National Signing Day is an annual event that occurs on early February. This is the first day high school athletes can make their college dreams a reality and sign their national letter of intent. With the amount of success New Jersey has had nationally, there are more legitimate football prospects playing college football each year. I am going to do my best to try and do a brief write-up on every Division 1 recruit in North Jersey that is signing on February 6th (National Signing Day). Also, I am going to take an in depth look at the players in the class of 2013 that flew under the radar on their path to college football.

Ryan Cottrell- The 6’5, 230 pound DE/LB elected to spend a semester at Blair Academy. Cottrell’s dream of playing Division 1 football was in jeapordy when he did not receive any offers coming out of high school. However, he was excelled on the football field and in the classroom at Blair this fall and drew interest from New Hampshire, Penn St., Sacred Heart, and Delaware. He ultimately decided to play for Sacred Heart and is currently enrolled there.

Johnny Trainor- Many critics believed that Trainor would be quiet this year after QB Devin Fuller left. Old Tappan was able to include Trainor in their running game and use his speed on special teams to really show off his true talent. Props to Trainor for choosing West Point as he will likely defend our country some day. No doubt they are getting a steal in Trainor.

More writeups to come in the following days. Also, the class of 2014 in NJ is LOADED with talent. I am very excited about that.
