Virginia Tech racks up two of a kind from New Jersey’s Class of 2014

Mitchell Ready to Take Virginia Tech to the Top
Billy Ray Mitchell became the third Paramus Catholic player to commit to a school after receiving more than a dozen offers this offseason. The offensive tackle said he knew that Virginia Tech was his number one after his visit to Blacksburg. It was just a matter of time before he made his commitment official.
“I just wanted to make sure I made the right commitment, this is where I want to be, this is where I want to play. I want to get Virginia Tech back to where it was when they were a threat to win a national title”.
Mitchell realizes the task ahead of him as he enters the ACC, one of the top college football conferences. The Hokies finished last year with a bowl win over Rutgers, but that  leaves a lot of room for improvement considering they had 6 losses. He wants to help Virginia Tech in any way possible on and off the field now that he has committed to the Hokies.
“I want to help recruit and put together a great class of 2014, and 2015, wherever it needs to be. I want to help make the school and the football team as great as it could possibly be and make a contribution as soon as I can.”
Mitchell had offers from Connecticut, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Syracuse among others. He originally planned to visit Wisconsin and Tennessee but turned them down once he knew that Blacksburg was the right destination for him.
Bosco’s Tryell Smith commits to Virginia Tech

Earlier this week, Don Bosco offensive lineman Tyrell Smith became the first New Jersey recruit from the Class of 2014 to commit to Virginia Tech. Smith was able to find a strong academic program in Virginia Tech, and a school that competes with the best. e

“I always knew that they were one of my top choices even if I wasn’t to receive an offer. If football doesn’t work out for me, I know that I would have a great degree to rely on” Smith said.

Virginia tech OL Jeff Grimes coach was able to reach out to Smith on a personal level.

“We had a great relationship and we talk about more than football and how the day is going”.

Smith said he waited on Syracuse and Maryland, but they lost interest and then he made the choice to join the Hokies. He also had offers from UMass and Florida Atlantic. His next objective was to recruit other athletes like Pope John’s Noah Brown and Paramus Catholic’s Billy Ray Mitchell.

Some Hot Topics:

Dwight Morrow WR Juwann Winfree has narrowed his list down to Rutgers, Pitt, Maryland, West Virginia, Kansas, NC State, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and Georgia (in no particular order). He said he plans to take visits to each of the eight schools before the season starts.

Don Bosco now has 3 Division-1 commits in its Class of 2014. (Frank Nutile to Temple, Tom Sweeney to Boston College, Smith to Virginia Tech ) They are definitely coming in under the radar after missing out on their first State Championship victory in since 2005.
