The opening weekend will feature the Big 4 in action vs. out of state schools.
Bergen Catholic will travel to Louisiana to take on John Curtis Friday, September 6th, at 6pm. Don Bosco will host St. Joe’s Prep of Philadelphia on their home turf on Saturday at 6 pm. St. Joseph Montvale will play DeMatha of Maryland at Kean University at 7pm on Saturday. Paramus Catholic will host Gilman on their new turf field at 2 pm on Sunday.
Prediction Time: Each of the schools in the Big 4 will suffer at least one loss this season. PC and Joe’s are more likely to lose to a team from NJ instead of an out of state opponent.
Who wins it all? Non Public Group 4: Paramus Catholic for the second straight year.
Non Public Group 3: St. Joseph (Montvale)
Non Public Group 2: DePaul
Paramus Catholic- The Paladins are riding high into this season. They return most of their skill players from last season including Jabrill Peppers, Tyrone Washington and Keyon Washington. All the attention is focused on Paramus Catholic after they won the Non Public, Group 4 title last year. The Paladins do not play a single public school all year on their schedule. This squad could have as many as 7 Division 1 prospects from their senior class by the time they graduate. They open their season against Gilman (Maryland) on their own turf Sunday at 2 pm.
St Joseph Regional- The Green Knights are lead by 2012 Defensive Player of the Year Mark Fossati who does it all. Senior Quarterback Spencer Aukamp comes into the season with two years of experience on his belt. Joe’s returns 3 starters on the offensive line and running back Sherman Alston, who is commited to BC. If anyone has the best shot at an undefeated season, its them.
Bosco- The Ironmen come into this season under the radar. Temple Commit Frank Nutile will start under center for the second straight year at quarterback. The defense is anchored by 2015 DB Daivon Ellison, and seniors Eric Meile and Zach Chakonis. Bosco’s toughest game this year should come when they host Miami Central (Florida) at home on September 21.
Bergen- The Crusaders travel to Louisiana to open up their season vs John Curtis on national television. Defensive Back JP Garcia and Defensive End Garrett Dickerson are the playmakers on defense. DB Cameron Queiro (committed to Northwestern) is also expected to make an impact. Colin McGovern and Jarrett Guarantano will split time at Quarterback this season.
DePaul- This team is poised to beat one of the Big 4 by the end of the season. The Spartans picked up two transfers this offseason in Rutgers commit Kiy Hester and Miami commit Courtel Jenkins. Quarterback Zach Benardzyk has verbally committed to Villanova and DE Justin Nelson is committed to Rutgers. The Spartans have the opportunity to keep up and defeat the best this season due to their transfers and depth.
