Paramus Catholic vs Gilman Preview

Paramus Catholic burst into the national spotlight last season by winning the Non-Public, Group 4 title. The Paladins begin their season with a test vs Gilman (Maryland) on their new turf at 2 pm. The Paladins do not play a single public school team all season. PC will play four out of state teams this season, something the Paladins have never done. Their only out of state opponent last year was Friendship Academy (Washington D.C.)
“I think this team is very much ready for the challenge and ready for the schedule”said Paramus Catholic offensive lineman Billy Ray Mitchell.
Michigan commit Jabrill Peppers ran the wildcat offense during the second half of last year’s schedule. Quarterback Steve Shanley returns to Paramus Catholic and has improved his accuracy over the offseason. He is one of Paramus Catholic’s 6 seniors with FBS offers.
“We have a really good senior driven class. Nick (Flores), Shanley, Juwann, and Tyrone have all played since sophomore year. We are all expirienced and we all want to go out with a bang”, Mitchell said of his squad.
Gilman has already played two games this year and lost to Manatee (Florida) last week. The Greyhounds defeated Don Bosco 13-6 at the Naval Academy as part of the I-95 Classic last season. Paramus Catholic should help New Jersey complete the sweep of Maryland/DC teams this weekend. St. Peter’s Prep defeated Gonzaga (Washington DC) 56-21 and St. Joe’s Montvale ran all over DeMatha (Maryland) en route to a 42-14 victory yesterday at Kean University. Paramus Catholic should start with a conventional offense to start the game but if they run into trouble, look for Peppers to run the wildcat to keep Gilman on their heels.

Prediction: 38-20 PC
