Rutgers notched their 26th commitment in the class of 2014 by adding St. Joseph Regional (Montvale) lineman Kevin Wilkins. The consensus three-star recruit officially added a tender from Rutgers last week and spent the day on campus.
Wilkins transferred from Don Bosco to St. Joe’s after his sophomore year. He worked with then Don Bosco offensive coordinator Anthony Campanile during his time in Ramsey and will re-unite with him next year at Rutgers.
One big factor that affected the tender Rutgers gave Wilkins was his Wilkins’ grades. He had to improve academically in order for them extend to offer. Clearly, Wilkins’ was able to get his act together and is now on board with the Scarlet Knights.
It appeared that until Rutgers offered, UConn had bragging rights and was going to land Wilkins. They displayed interest in him on both sides of the ball. However, Rutgers was close to home and Wilkins will have the opportunity to play with former teammates Gary Nova, Leonte Carroo, Darius Hamilton, and Razohnn Gross in Piscataway.
Wilkins also had offers from UConn, UCF, Maryland and Boston college.
