This weekend, I had a chance to check out DePaul for the first time. They absolutely dominated in the second half by outscoring BC 35-6. There were several aspects that impressed me about DePaul including two class of 2016 recruits.
– Despite having a D-1 running back in sophomore Kareem Walker, the Spartans were able to balance their ground game with the help two other players. Markey Clark and Steven Speidel made nice contributions to the DePaul running game in order to help take the load off Walker. The Spartans rushed for 247 yards on Friday night.
– The Spartans secondary looked good, and their d-line looked even better. The Spartans have four D-1 bound starters on defense including Hasise Dubois (cornerback), and St. Anthony transfer Courtel Jenkins (defensive tackle).
– Wide receiver Riley Clark took a lot of the pressure off Rutgers bound Kiy Hester. Clark had four receptions for a total of 83 yards one touchdown.
– One bad thing that stood out to me was that DePaul had six personal foul penalties. Fortunately for the Spartans, most of their silly mistakes were enforced when they were already up 20 and the game was pretty much over. You just can’t beat PC or Joe’s with that many silly mistakes.
I got a chance to catch up with two D-1 bound 2016 prospects from DePaul after the game. Cornerback Hasise Dubois and running back Kareem Walker both hold offers from Rutgers. DePaul already has two 2014 recruits committed to the Scarlet Knights in Kiy Hester and Justin Nelson.
Hasise Dubois-
The Scarlet Knights offered Dubois after he posted a good performance at their 7 on 7 event last spring. When asked about Rutgers, Dubois, spoke highly of the Scarlet Knights. “It’s like a family up there,” he said. Dubois said he plans on attending a game in Piscataway before the season is over. He is also receiving interest from Nebraska and Penn State. He wants to play early in college.
Kareem Walker-
Walker played well vs. Bergen Catholic and showcased his speed and good balance. In the middle of the 4th quarter, Walker bursted up the middle for a 65-yard touchdown run. Walker received his first offer from Rutgers in August. “I really deserved it,” he said. Michigan State and Miami are currently interested in Walker as well. He said he plans to take visits after the year and said he is focused on winning a championship for now.
