Overpeck Park will host Bosco vs. Bergen for the second straight year tonight at 7 p.m. tonight. Bergen (2-5) comes into this game in need of a win to keep their playoff hopes alive . Although both programs no longer remain in control of the Non-Public schools in New Jersey, the rivalry has still lived up to the hype.
Bosco (3-3) proved two weeks ago with a win vs. Paramus Catholic that they can play with speed and force turnovers. The Ironmen have played banged up for most of the season and were able to get some much needed rest last week with a bye. They are in good position with the playoffs only a few weeks away. The Ironmen remain as a threat to any team in NJ due to their dominant defense that has been able to force turnovers and swarm the football. Kyle Klienberg, Zach Chakonis, and Kevin Feder have anchored the Bosco defense.
Bergen Catholic is more desperate for a win now than ever. They must beat Bosco tonight and then hope for either Notre Dame to lose their final game or for Paul VI to lose one of their final two games on the season. I can only imagine what Bergen Catholic coach Nunzio Campanile has in his bag of tricks for today. The Crusaders have struggled on offense this season with two starting quarterbacks in Colin McGovern and Jarrett Guarantano. If Bergen can put some points up on the board and manage to force a few turnovers, anything can happen. I think Bergen’s need for a win will make this game closer than expected.
