Bosco on a hot streak after Triple OT Win

The Don Bosco defense continued its recent dominance over teams from NJ with a 23-17 overtime win over Bergen Catholic at Overpeck Park Saturday Night. It seemed like Bergen could come away with a victory over their arch-rival when they needed it most until Frank Nutile led Bosco down the field in under a minute to help set up a Cameron Baels 42 yard field goal to send the game into Overtime. Both teams scored in the first overtime and were held scoreless in the second overtime. Then Danny Yankovich picked off Jarrett Guarantano in his own end zone. That set up a four yard Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks four yard touchdown run to give Bosco the victory.

Nutile had not played for two games going into the matchup with Bergen. I really thought that after Bosco failed to score before halftime, Toal would replace Nick Crusco with Nutile. Once Nutile came into the game on Bosco’s final drive of the fourth  (that sent the game into OT) and remained the starter in overtime, Bosco’s offense looked good. Nutile was 5-6 with 58 yards and a touchdown pass to tight end Tom Sweeney.

Bosco’s defense proved to be a force for the third straight week. Although they only forced two turnovers, the Ironmen sacked Bergen quarterback’s Jarrett Guarantano and Colin McGovern several times. Zach Chakonis and Kevin Feder made countless plays for the Ironmen on defense, which have held their last three opponents to an average of less than 13 points.

Bosco kicker Cameron Baels missed two consecutive field goals that both went wide left. Baels did come up big in the fourth by hitting a 42 yard field goal to send the game into OT.

Wide receiver/defensive back Danny Yankovich seemed to make plays for Bosco whenever they needed some momentum. Yankovich picked off Jarrett Guarantano in the third overtime which set up Bosco’s game winning drive. He caught six passes for 69 for the Ironmen as well.

You look at a team like Bosco and cant help but think, can this team keep winning big games? Bosco heads into the playoffs seeded fifth. I cant remember the last time they were lower than third. Their seeding will likely set them up with the number one seed, Paramus Catholic in the semis.
