Player Profile: Mahwah’s Erik Wong

Erik Wong has put together a nice résumé in his three years as a starter at Mahwah High School. At 6 feet, 210 pounds, he has a nice frame. The linebacker, slot back, and tight end has made plays as a two way starter and has the grades that will help him land at a reputable university next year.

Film Analysis: Wong played several different positions at Mahwah. He was a reliable target as a tight end and slot back. A brief look at his highlight film reveals that Wong can find openings in a secondaries zone and can also peel out into the flat. Defensively, he is a physical linebacker that knows how to fill a hole. Wong also proves that he takes a good angle when tracking down running backs. He is agressive especially on defense. Wong tells me he runs a 4.8 in the 40 yard dash. His skill can undoubtedly translate to the college level.

A look ahead: Wong can play several positions in college. Offensively, you can project him as a tight end or fullback. On defense, he can play outside linebacker, or strong safety. His grades make him a prime target for any prestigious university. Wong has a 4.0 GPA and 31 ACT score. He has drawn interest from Ivy League programs such as UPenn, Harvard, and Dartmouth. Johns Hopkins, Bentley, and some NESCAC schools have inquired about him as well.
