Tenafly’s Nakia Griffin Commits to RU

Nakia Griffin took his first visit to Rutgers on Tuesday Feb. 18. After touring the campus, meeting with the coaching staff, and receiving his first offer from the Scarlet Knights, the 2015 prospect committed.

Griffin started hearing from Rutgers in early Feb. He told NJ.com prior to his visit on Feb. 18, “That’s my No. 1 school, that’s where I wanna be. So hopefully everything goes to plan and I can get this process done with early. Because I already know that’s where I want to go.”

The Tenafly (NJ) athlete is expected to play tight end at Rutgers. During his junior season at Tenafly, he played wide receiver, tight end, defensive end, safety, and outside linebacker.

Griffin said he likes several aspects about Rutgers.

He noted that the campus is close to home. Griffin also said he has a very good relationship with Coach Campanile. And he is also excited about the Scarlet Knights move to the Big Ten.

Commitment reaction: Griffin is considered an under the radar prospect and is a nice get for Rutgers 2015 class. At 6’5, 220, he can play a number of different positions. He needs to get stronger and I’m sure Rutgers expects him put on some weight if they want him at tight end. Griffin’s relationship with Rutgers quarterback commit Mike Dare (Elmwood Park) at the Scarlet Knights camp last summer also played a role in his commitment.
