Westwood wideout Nolan Borgersen announced Friday that he committed to Boston College after adding an offer from the Eagles earlier this week.
Borgersen went up to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Wednesday to work out for some of the Boston College coaches in hopes of finally landing an offer, and he was able to come away with one.
“I went up there, I ran a few routes, and they shut me down,” he said. Borgersen ran a 4.39 40-yard dash in front of the coaches during his workout.
Shortly after his impressive performance, they extended him his 13th offer.
“I think it was really satisfying running a good time and finally getting that offer. It was kind of elusive, I’ve always wanted it and it was hard to get. It’s good to see the hard work pay off.” he said.
Borgersen was able to sit down with Boston College head coach Steve Addazio after his workout and talk on Wednesday.
“He said I was always their guy, it was just that my (40) time at their last camp kept them from offering.” Borgersen said. He added that Addazio apologized to him for not previously offering and Borgersen appreciated that.
“When you’re at school, none of that is going to matter. Who offered first, or when they offered. You’re not going to think about it.” he said.
The recruiting process did not come so easy for the 2015 Westwood wide receiver. Despite breaking several receiving records this past season, Borgersen did not pick up his first FBS offer until just a few weeks ago, when Temple offered.
“My recruiting kind of got off to a slow start,” he said.
Borgersen said he did not perform as well as he had hoped to during some camps last year. However, he ran track which improved his 40-yard dash time and was able to improve his route running skills.
Boston College coaches see Borgersen as an outside guy and a “vertical threat”, he said. The 6’2, 185-pound wide receiver was a threat to every team he faced during his junior season.
He caught 84 balls for 1,894 yards, and hauled in 26 touchdowns during his junior year, where he helped Westwood win a North I, Group 2 sectional title. His numbers helped him earn First Team All-State honors from The Star-Ledger along with a plethora of other accolades.
Borgersen said he originally had plans to make his college decision in early July after taking some time to think about it, but it just felt like the right time.
“I was going to go on vacation and kind of take it all back and commit but, it kind of hit me. I’ve always wanted to go to BC, why wait another six days to commit to BC, why not just do it now?”
Analysis: Borgersen’s commitment will help Boston College tremendously on the football field in a few years. He has solid size at 6’2, 185-pounds with room to grow. Borgersen knows how to position himself well in order to make a play the ball. He has really good downfield vision. His grades are exceptional, and he is smart on the field as well. And needless to say, his speed has improved. It’s easy to become a fan of Borgersen because of his outstanding attitude and I see him as one of New Jersey’s most underrated players in the class of 2015. Too many schools missed out on him.
