It is safe to say Bergenfield Tight End Jovani Haskins has caught fire after earning his first three offers in less than a week. Haskins, a 6’4, 220 pound target, added offers from Rutgers, Syracuse, and Boston College in just under a week in late June.
The 2016 product earned offers from Rutgers and Syracuse after camping, respectively. Boston College extended a tender when Haskins took a trip up to Chestnut Hill to visit campus.
Haskins has been able to develop his game while camping at prospective schools. He has worked on his technique under the supervision of college coaches in preparation for his junior season.
Haskins has taken advantage of the prospect camps in order to improve on his speed and run blocking, which he considers. “the weakest points in my game.”
“All the coaches at each school know what they are talking about so I try my best to take advantage of what they say to use it on the field, other position drills and one-on-ones help me as well because I get to compete and get better,” he said.
In addition to camping at Rutgers, Syracuse, and Penn State, Haskins will camp at UConn and Temple, all of whom are showing interest at this time. Haskins has plans for his recruitment to slow down in August in preparation for the upcoming season in the fall. He also has interest from Army and Navy.
Playing at a school with a football reputation is important to Haskins.
“I want to play at a school where I feel comfortable playing under their coaching staff and comfortable around my teammates. I also want to play at a school with rich tradition and with players that want to win championships.” he said.
His dream is to play at “a grand daddy of them all” school like Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State or USC.
Playing in a conference with highly ranked teams is also important to Haskins, who would like to play in the SEC, Big 10, or Pac 12.
“I know that those schools are possibilities for me in the future, I just have to stay humble and keep working hard on and off the field.” he said.
Haskins has become an reliable target for any quarterback due to his size and athleticism. He prides himself on his route running, and ability to make plays on the ball. Haskins will likely see more interest and could add more offers from schools once programs get the chance to break down his junior tape.
Haskins will camp next year at some big name schools after his junior season in hopes of landing additional offers. Haskins should be on every college coach’s radar as he prepares for his junior season, where he could put up the kind of highlights and numbers in order for other schools to notice him.
