Rutgers on the Recruiting Downfall

2014 DePaul DB/WR Kiy Hester announced via Twitter on Monday that he de-committed from Rutgers.

Prior to committing to Rutgers, Hester considered Miami, North Carolina, Virginia, and Vanderbilt among other schools. Hester, a consensus four-star recruit originally committed to the Scarlet Knights on June 28. Hester has helped DePaul to a 7-2 record and #1 seed in Non-Public Group 2 playoffs. Hester will likely make a decision after the season considering that the playoffs begin this weekend.

Shortly after de-committing from Rutgers, 2014 Ohio State commit Noah Brown (Pope John) tweeted this to Hester:

Oh, the power of social media .Brown clearly wants Hester to join him at Ohio State next year. Hester was not the first recruit to de-commit from Rutgers this week.

2014 Timber Creek wide receiver Adonis Jennings also de-committed from the Scarlet Knights.Jennings de-commitment comes after some tension that arose a coupe of months ago re-appeared in the last few weeks.

First, Jennings took an official Iowa on Nov. 2. According to a report from the Star-Ledger after his visit to Iowa, Jennings said, “I’m still holding strong with it, but I’m gonna take my officials because I just want to experience different places just to see if another place could possibly be right for me. And I won’t know if I don’t experience them.”

Then, Jennings re-visited Rutgers with his dad last week. This past weekend he allegedly visited Pitt for their game vs. Notre Dame. Once Jennings de-committed, Hester followed. You can’t help but think that some more players will follow.

It turns out that 2014 linebacker Lamont Simmons (Jacksonville, FL) also de-comitted today. Rutgers has dug itself into a hole that was once filled with recruits for their class of 2014 now that three recruits have de-committed in the past 24 hours.

NJ Football Spot will continue to keep you updated on the status of Adonis Jennings and Kiy Hester’s recruitment.
