DePaul running back Kareem Walker announced his verbal commitment to Ohio State via Twitter at halftime of the Buckeyes National Championship game vs Oregon on Monday night. Walker is regarded by several media outlets including Scout, 247Sports, and Rivals as the number one running back in the class of 2016.

Walker was voted first team All-State by NJ.com after rushing for 1,607 yards on 199 carries and 26 touchdowns this season. He also helped DePaul to a Non-Public, Group 2 title in his junior campaign.

Walker is a power back who runs with patience and great vision. He can outrun most defenders and holds a nice frame at 6’1, 215.

Walker’s commitment impacts college football in many ways. His teammate, Hasise Duboise, also holds an offer from the Buckeyes.

Walker’s pledge is a big blow to Rutgers, who had hopes of landing Bergen Catholic quarterback Jarrett Guarantano, Paramus Catholic defensive end Rashan Gary, and Walker in order to bring in a star studded 2016 class from the Garden State.

Walker is the fifth 2016 prospect to verbally commit to Ohio State. He chose Ohio State over more than 20 programs including Alabama, Notre Dame, and Oregon.

More to come.
